You brought a raindrop
Into my habit of happiness
You laughed at my laughter
And walked miles
Just to hear me sigh
You touched the string
That stretched the most
You softened the chord
That hurt the most
You created space
For an unforgiven truth
That lay around for ages
Unnoticed, neglected, orphaned
You mothered my wound
Long dried up under the sun
You opened the layers
Of my un-sutured skin
And dove into the cavities
Of my veins
You sang my sorrow to me
As if it were yours
The warmth in your palms
Melted me and I flowed
Like rivulets
Through the crevices
Of your hands
When I lay asleep on a wave
Awash with sunlit beams
And a thousand smiling dreams
You drew a shore
On the canvas of my imagination
When I basked in the knowledge
Of an unbroken heart
You showed me how it feels
To be crushed against the sand
When I opened my arms
To the chill of the morning
You wrapped my eager amazement
In a blanket of your thoughts
You crossed the lines
Of perpetual satiety
You took a piece from my sky
And kissed it into a cloud
Your pacing breath
Rained into my silences
Until they began to overflow
With words that laid me bare
And left me asking for more
Alms that you poured
Into my hands
When all I did was smile at you
Across a roomful of strangers
